Hi friends--today we're gonna go a little deeper. You ready? Then keep reading!
Have you ever heard someone say "I need to learn to manage my time better" or have you said that yourself? Well, we've got news for you: You actually can't manage time. Trippy, right? But 24 hours is 24 hours is 24 hours. So what can you manage? You can manage yourself. It's kinda one of those mindset shifts (ya know, like our ideal client vs ideal philosophy mindset shift)--instead of learning how to manage time (which is impossible unless you've invented time travel), we need to learn how to manage ourselves better.
Okay, so now you're annoyed at us like "Can't I just stick with the status quo and say what I always say?!" And, like, yeah, sure you can. But wouldn't you rather STOP saying that all together? Or grow your toolbox (read: skill set) to include ways to manage yourself better and be more productive? We know that we would, so we've really been focusing on that--managing ourselves better. This starts with our workflows and systems, and most importantly, our online task management software: Trello. We most certainly aren't pros, and some weeks are better than others, but this really has been the catch all place for all things B+P and A&Co. We keep our workflows in there, personal to-do's, weekly to-do's, monthly to-do's, and even big picture things like dreams for five years down the road (Taylor's a dreamer by nature so having a place to put all of these ideas has been helpful for her).
Back to Bey--You've heard it said before "We all have the same amount of hours in the day as Beyonce." Right?! And then your friend says "Well she's got lots of help!" And while that's true TODAY, it wasn't always the case. She built her empire with a small team of people, working day in and day out to achieve her dreams, and while we can say now "Of course she can get XYZ done, she has a huge team under her," we need to remember that this wasn't always the case. It started in her living room, with a record and a dream.
Hmmm, sound similar to your start up? Ours started in the car as we drove home from planning and executing a friend's wedding.
On to the actual meat of this blog post--the tips!
1 // WRITE. IT. DOWN. (or put it on a virtual list)
Keeping track of your to-do's can help you prioritize them and see them at a glance. It also gets them out of your head, and then you can forget about them until it's time to look at your list again. This helps us with sleeping, because our minds are more clear at night now that we're writing it ALLLLL down.
2 // Choose your top three.
When you sit down to work look at your list and pick out the three most important things you can get done in the time you have. Sometimes this is simply cleaning out your inbox or tidying up your house. And sometimes it's writing and scheduling blog posts or working up a mood board for a client or bringing a design to life with the proposal.
3 // Celebrate the small wins!
It sounds silly, but it's not. If we celebrated only the big wins we wouldn't be reminding ourselves how great we really are often enough. If we celebrate the small wins, we are reminding ourselves that we are doing well, we are accomplishing things, and we do have things to be proud of. Positivity goes a long way in making each day better.
We'll step off of our soap box now and let you put these tips into practice. Which of these do you already do? Which of these will you be implementing? Comment below!
